Ex-Terp Mullins chosen by NYCFC in expansion draft
Former Maryland star Patrick Mullins was selected by New York City FC from the New England Revolution as the fourth overall pick in the Major League Soccer expansion draft. The forward made 21 regular-season appearances for the Revs in 2014, scoring four goals and adding an assist. In the postseason, Mullins made three appearances as a substitute.
More MLS: D.C. United lost reserve midfielders Lewis Neal and Thomas McNamara in the expansion draft but dodged the possible loss of any of the four regulars left unprotected. Orlando City selected Neal, a 33-year-old Englishman who made 53 regular-season appearances (19 starts) and had two goals and three assists in three seasons in Washington. New York City FC chose McNamara, whom United claimed in the Nov. 19 dispersal draft after MLS shuttered Chivas USA. After Neal was plucked by Orlando, United added starting central midfielder Davy Arnaud to its protected list. Orlando and New York passed over forward Eddie Johnson, outside back Chris Korband midfielder Andrew Driver.
