Four-star DeMatha OL commits to Terps

Marcus Minor, a four-star offensive lineman from DeMatha, announced on Comcast SportsNet on Sunday night that he has committed to Maryland. The 6-5, 290-pound Minor, rated the 28th best offensive lineman in the country and the No. 5 player in the state according to 247Sports.com, is the sixth player rated with at least a four-star rating to announce his intentions to play for coach DJ Durkin. With the commitment of Minor, the Terps are ranked 17th in the country by 247Sports and third in the Big Ten Conference behind Ohio State (No. 1 nationally) and Michigan (No. 10 nationally) for 2017. Maryland was ranked 42nd overall in 2016 and seventh in the Big Ten.

Stein, Bauer take first place in Annapolis Ten Mile Run

Washington's Jeff Stein outlasted Catonsville's Andrew Madison in the final three miles to win the 41st running of the Annapolis Ten Mile Run. "That guy ran a helluva race," said Madison, who won the race in 2012 and also finished second in 2013. "We were with each other through seven [miles]. He threw a surge down; I tried to follow, but he just took off. He had it from there." Stein finished in 54 minutes, 53.94 seconds. Madison was second in a time of 55:57, followed by Thomas Kelly (56:24.3), Annapolis' Sam Peckham (56:51.6) and Pasadena's Ryan Topita (57:47.6), last year's runner-up. In the female championship, Columbia's Caroline Bauer edged Alex Wang, the defending champion from Ellicott City, with a winning time of 1:00:44. "I'm marathoner, so this is painful, but it's good for fitness; we're both going to run in Chicago in five weeks," Bauer said, referring to Wang. "I went out conservatively and finally the legs started to warm up," Bauer said. "I just tried to hold onto the pace and attack the hills as much as I could." Wang, who won last year's race by roughly five minutes, finished Sunday in 1:02:32, followed by Beth Hannon (1:05:29), Alexandra Swiatocha (1:05.55) and Erin Masterson (1:07:13).

Men's college soccer: Navy sophomore forward Daniel Kwon (Severna Park) scored on a penalty kick in the 50th minute and junior goalkeeper Mac Burke made 10 saves as the Midshipmen (0-1-1) tied host Furman (1-0-1), 1-1, in double overtime.

Women's college soccer: North Carolina-Wilmington (3-0-1) scored two second-half goals to earn a 4-1 victory over visiting UMBC (2-2-0). Retrievers junior midfielder Angela Kuhn (C. Milton Wright) scored her first goal of the season in the 65th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Seahawks scored in the 80th and 89th minutes to seal the win. … Mount St. Mary's junior forward Chloe Cain scored on a header in overtime to lift the host Mountaineers (1-1-1) to a 2-1 victory over American (0-4). … North Carolina State (2-2) earned a 4-1 win over visiting Navy (0-3-1). Mids junior forward Clare MacAdam scored in the 89th minute.

College field hockey: No. 6 Maryland fell to No. 2 Syracuse, 4-1, at the Conference Cup at Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia.

WNBA: Tayler Hill scored 26 points but the host Washington Mysitcs (10-16) fell, 85-74, to the San Antonio Stars (6-19).
