Outlook: The Blast had a convincing 16-7 season-opening win over the Syracuse Silver Knights on Saturday and will try to build on the effort against the Waza Flo, which previously competed in the Professional Arena Soccer League. After falling behind 7-6 in the second quarter against the Silver Knights, the Blast scored three unanswered goals in the final three minutes of the first half, then blanked the visitors the rest of the way. Max Ferdinand led the offense with three goals, and goalie William Vanzela made all eight of his saves in the first half. The Waza Flo, which joins the Blast in the Eastern Division of the new Major Arena Soccer League, opened with an 8-4 win over the Harrisburg Heat on Nov. 1 before falling to the Rochester Lancers, 9-8, on Saturday. Miki Djerisilo and Victor Otieno both have three goals and two assists, andformer Blast player Worteh Sampson has four goals. Blast coach Danny Kelly said he was impressed with how his team settled in Saturday to take control of the game and was particularly pleased with the play of newcomers. The Blast has seven first-year players.
