Ravens wide receiver Kamar Aiken signs restricted free agent tender

Now under contract, Kamar Aiken gets nice reward after breakout 2015 season for Ravens.

Ravens wide receiver Kamar Aiken signed his one-year, restricted free agent tender today after reporting to the team facility for the start of the offseason workout program. The contract locks him in at a $2.55 million salary for the 2016 season.

A former undrafted free agent who bounced around several teams before signing with the Ravens late in 2013, Aiken had a breakout season last year. He led the Ravens with 75 receptions for 944 yards and five touchdowns while playing all 16 games.

He had entered the year with just 24 career catches, but his importance to the Ravens’ offense grew each week after injuries to first-round wide receiver Breshad Perriman and veteran Steve Smith Sr. The Ravens felt strongly enough about Aiken that they applied the second-round tender on him, all but eliminating the possibility that he’d sign an offer sheet with another team.

Aiken is expected to start the 2016 season as either the team’s No. 2 or No. 3 wide receiver after the signing of Mike Wallace and the expected healthy returns of Smith and Perriman.
