Former Bears punter Podlesh away from Steelers' camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed punter Adam Podlesh on the reserve/did not report list Tuesday.

"Adam has decided not to report to training camp at this time due to family obligations," Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said.

The 31-year-old Podlesh signed a one-year contract with the Steelers in April after spending three seasons with the Chicago Bears. He averaged 40.6 yards per punt last season.

Before joining the Bears, Podlesh was with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2007 to 2010 after being drafted in the fourth round by the Jags in 2007. He has had just one punt blocked in 467 career attempts and has a 42.4-yard career average.

The Steelers decided after last season not to re-sign Mat McBriar, who averaged a career-low 41.3 yards per punt in 2013. Brad Wing was brought in as a replacement to handle the punting duties this year.
