Kindle, Doss inactive vs. Steelers

The Ravens will open the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers with two surprising inactives.

The team deactivated outside linebacker Sergio Kindle and rookie wide receiver Tandon Doss for Sunday’s contest. Kindle appeared to fare decently in limited time in the preseason, but Albert McClellan, a second-year player, is more productive on special teams.

Doss, the organization’s fourth-round pick, was considered a candidate for the No. 3 receiver role, but fellow rookie LaQuan Williams, an undrafted free agent, plays more special teams. The decision to scratch Doss would seem to cement rookie Torrey Smith as the No. 3 receiver.

The Ravens also deactivated linebackers Jason Phillips and Michael McAdoo, nose tackle Brandon McKinney, center Bryan Mattison and rookie cornerback Chykie Brown. Phillips was the only injury concern as he was questionable after suffering a concussion during practice earlier in the week.

The Steelers’ most significant scratch is wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who missed two consecutive practices. Cotchery, who has been bothered by a hamstring injury, was listed as doubtful.

Pittsburgh also deactivated cornerback Curtis Brown, linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring), quarterback Dennis Dixon, running back Jonathan Dwyer, guard Ramon Foster and offensive tackle Chris Scott.
