Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh talks about their win over the Cleveland Browns, capturing the first seed bye in the NFL playoffs.
The Ravens’ defensive coordinator uses the nickname of a famous game show host and radio personality. Now, Wink Martindale has joked that he wants payment — in the form of tickets — for the use of it.
The 86-year-old Martindale told TMZ he wants Ravens tickets because Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale has used the nickname. Don Martindale got the nickname in college because of the original Martindale, who hosted “Tic Tac Dough” and whose birth name in Winston, and has used it since.
“I think I’m gonna sue him for using my name," Wink joked to TMZ. “I love it. I get mentioned on Ravens games. I love it.
"Get the word to him, I want an invite.”
Unless the Ravens’ Martindale was able to get some tickets set aside for this weekend’s home matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he would have to get his namesake out to a playoff game to deliver on the payment.
Of course, there’s always next season, though there’s no guarantee Don Martindale will still be on the Ravens’ staff. After eight seasons with Baltimore, including the last two as defensive coordinator, Martindale is a popular name as NFL head coaching searches start ramping up.
