‘Should be an easy one’: Steeler takes pregame shot at Ravens, and war of words continues after it

Two hours before kickoff, Pittsburgh defensive end Stephon Tuitt sent a message. Sidelined on the reserve/COVID-19 list, he couldn’t be with the Steelers for Wednesday’s game against the Ravens. That didn’t mean he couldn’t make things interesting.

“Good luck to the boys today,” he wrote on Twitter. “Pad the stats - should be an easy one. Eyeing my return for next week against Washington where I should catch up. I say it because I believe it.”

It was not an easy one. The Steelers remained unbeaten and knocked the Ravens out of AFC North title contention, but coach Mike Tomlin afterward called their performance in Pittsburgh “junior varsity.” Against a rival missing nine starters, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Steelers couldn’t rest easy until the final minutes of a 19-14 win.

Their middling performance — and the Ravens’ three-game losing streak — didn’t keep either team from holding back after the game, though.

On Instagram, Pittsburgh wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster shared a video clip and photos of him stiff-arming Ravens cornerback Tramon Williams to the ground on a fourth-quarter catch-and-run. Smith-Schuster, who has over 2 million followers on the video-sharing social network TikTok, couldn’t help himself.

“Imagine getting stiff arm’d 10 yards by a Tik Tok influencer,” he wrote, adding three skull emoji for further effect.

Ravens wide receiver Willie Snead IV, also sitting out the game after testing positive for COVID-19, did not take kindly to the message.

“That boy soft az hell,” he wrote on Twitter, responding to an ESPN tweet that had shared Smith-Schuster’s post.

He added, in his next tweet: “Front runners bruh. Straight up.”

The Ravens and Steelers won’t play again until next season — unless, of course, they meet in the playoffs.
