Ravens LT Ronnie Stanley misses practice Friday, listed as questionable vs. Bills; OLB Houston, OT Mekari doubtful

Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley missed Friday’s practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Stanley (ankle) practiced fully on Wednesday for the first time this season and practiced without limitations again on Thursday. Afterward, he said he felt “really good” and indicated that he could make his season debut Sunday.

“I’m very close, and I’ll talk it over with the rest of the staff and coaches,” he said. “We’re going to make the best decision that’s best for the team.”

With Patrick Mekari (ankle) listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game after missing his third straight practice Friday, the Ravens could start rookie Daniel Faalele against a vaunted Bills defense. Faalele hadn’t played left tackle in a game until Sunday’s win over the New England Patriots.

Coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that the Ravens wouldn’t activate Stanley, who’s been limited by ankle injuries to just one game since November 2020, until he feels he’s “going to be good.”

“It’s a priority to go out there and be at his best when he comes back,” Harbaugh said. “At the same time, he’s going to have to jump in at some point, so it could be this week. We’ll just have to see. He practiced quite a bit [Wednesday], and we’ll see where it’s at now, and then [Thursday], then Friday and make a decision.”

Outside linebacker Justin Houston (groin) missed his third straight practice and is doubtful to play Sunday. Running back J.K. Dobbins (chest), cornerback Marcus Peters (rest/knee) and wide receiver James Proche (groin) are expected to be available.

Buffalo’s list of injuries is much longer. Bills starting cornerback Christian Benford (hand), reserve wide receiver Jake Kumerow (ankle) and reserve defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (hamstring) were ruled out of Sunday’s game.

Starting wide receiver Gabe Davis (ankle) was among seven players listed as questionable. He was limited in practice Friday after not practicing Thursday.

“I don’t know if he’d qualify it as a setback, but he did, let’s just say, aggravate it a little,” Buffalo coach Sean McDermott told local reporters before practice Friday. “I don’t know if it’s a setback from that standpoint or not. But he did aggravate it, and we’ll see how it looks today.”

Five other starters are also questionable after being limited Friday: center Mitch Morse (elbow), tight end Dawson Knox (back/hip), defensive tackle Ed Oliver (ankle), cornerback Dane Jackson (neck) and safety Jordan Poyer (foot). Reserve offensive lineman lineman Justin Murray (foot) is also questionable.

McDermott said practice squad cornerback Xavier Rhodes, signed this week to bolster the Bills’ secondary depth, is unlikely to play Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury in practice Thursday.
