MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA — Robert Griffin III had a new addition to his game-day uniform Sunday: a hospital bracelet.
Griffin’s wife, Grete, gave birth to a baby girl, Gameya, on Saturday, the team announced. It’s the couple’s second child. In tribute, Griffin wore his wife’s hospital bracelet to the Ravens’ season opener against the Miami Dolphins, a 59-10 win.
“Such a special Game Day today!” tweeted Griffin, who later thanked the Ravens and coach John Harbaugh for allowing him to be with his wife and then flying him to Miami on Saturday night. “It marks the beginning of a new year w/ a special group of guys w/ @ravens & the beginning of new life!”
Griffin missed the entire preseason with a fractured bone in his right hand but was activated for Sunday’s game. Rookie Trace McSorley was inactive.
With the Ravens routing Miami on Sunday, Griffin entered the game in the fourth quarter and threw a touchdown pass, connecting with tight end Mark Andrews on fourth-and-goal to give the Ravens a franchise-record 59 points.
