The Ravens re-signed outside linebacker Pernell McPhee on Thursday, rounding out their 53-man roster with a widely expected reunion.
McPhee, who started 13 games last season, didn’t make the Ravens’ initial roster Tuesday but held off on signing with another team. After the Ravens placed wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin on injured reserve Wednesday, they had space for two roster additions. Tight end Eric Tomlinson was re-signed Wednesday, and McPhee’s return was finalized Thursday.
McPhee, 32, joins a crowded outside linebacker room in Baltimore. With the Ravens keeping Jaylon Ferguson, the team has six players at the position: Tyus Bowser, Justin Houston, Odafe Oweh, Daelin Hayes, McPhee and Ferguson. Depending on game day roster needs, at least one will likely be deactivated for the Ravens’ season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.
In 15 games last season, McPhee had 34 tackles, 15 quarterback hits and three sacks. He graded out as one of the Ravens’ top run defenders, according to Pro Football Focus, as well as one of their top pass rushers.
