Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who did not play in the preseason opener last week against the Carolina Panthers, said he hasn't "really thought about" playing in Saturday's preseason game at the Indianapolis Colts.
"I've just been focused on coming out here every day and trying to get better and feel as good as I can," Flacco said Tuesday.
Flacco said he had not yet talked with coach John Harbaugh about his status for the game against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"I discussed it with the trainer and the doctors early on, and we'll see," he said.
Flacco doesn't seem too concerned that playing in just one preseason game — likely the third game at home against the Detroit Lions on Aug. 27 — would hinder him come the regular season.
"I'm not worried about it. I've played plenty of games," he said. "I think the biggest reason to get out there is to get back in live action. It doesn't take long to do that."
Flacco acknowledged it's difficult to measure his progress during practice as opposed to playing in a game.
"But even in the preseason it's tough because you're not out there a ton of time," Flacco said. "Practice is really as good of a tell as any, but you really have to go out there Game 1 [of the regular season] and lace it up against some live competition."
Even without playing in a game, Flacco seemed confident that the Ravens are ready to turn it back around after a 5-11 record in 2015.
"We're confident that we're good and we're confident that we're doing something really good here," he said.
Smith interviewed by Special Olympian: Even though he remains on the PUP list, it was a busy post-practice for Steve Smith Sr.
Smith was also interviewed on camera by Maryland Special Olympian Brandan Ehrmantraut, a 22-year-old from Prince Frederick who aspires to be a sports broadcaster.
"Last year when we went to the USA Games, he was goofing around and did kind of an ESPN recap of how Team Maryland was doing with the medals," said Jason Schriml, vice president of communications for Special Olympics Maryland. "He was pretty good and we asked him if he wanted to do something like this and he said it was one of his dreams."
In the past year, Ehrmantraut has interviewed Orioles star Adam Jones as well as legendary Maryland play-by-play announcer Johnny Holliday. Ehrmantraut said that Tuesday was the first time he had been mic'ed.
Erhmantraut said he grew up trying to imitate late ESPN anchor Stuart Scott. As for interviewing Smith, Ehrmantraut conceded that he grew up "in a household of Pittsburgh Steeler fans" and is personally a fan of the now Los Angeles Rams.
"I do respect the Ravens franchise; they're a great franchise," he said. "I always like Steve Smith and Ed Reed and Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs. They're really good players. When I play NFL Madden, I put them all on the same team and make my team good."
End zone: Rookie wide receiver Chris Moore, who was hurt early in training camp, returned to practice Tuesday. ... Harbaugh said he and his family enjoyed watching Michael Phelps at the Olympics. "He's going to be out here I'm sure soon watching practice," Harbaugh said. "I'm going to try and talk to him about speaking to the team. Maybe now he will."
