Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith returned to practice Wednesday, about a month after he sprained his ankle in training camp.

Smith participated in positional drills during the open portion of the workout. Coach John Harbaugh had said he was “hopeful” that Smith would practice this week, the team’s last before its 2021 season opens Monday night against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Tight end Nick Boyle, defensive end Derek Wolfe and rookie outside linebacker Daelin Hayes were absent from practice. Wolfe last participated in an open practice over two weeks ago. The Ravens’ first injury report will be released Thursday.

Newly signed running backs Trenton Cannon and Le’Veon Bell were both at practice, with Cannon wearing No. 39 and Bell No. 17.

The Ravens also signed defensive tackle Reginald McKenzie to their practice squad. A sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018, McKenzie’s also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals. He’s the son of former NFL linebacker Reggie McKenzie and the nephew of former guard Raleigh McKenzie.
