Ravens cornerback Chris Westry was placed on injured reserve Friday, becoming the team’s 15th player to be sidelined with an injury designation this season.
Westry suffered a knee injury in Monday night’s Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, a game in which he played nearly 40% of the defensive snaps and 66% of the special teams snaps. He missed all three Ravens practices this week.
A training camp standout, Westry will be sidelined for at least three games and is ineligible to return until Week 5. His absence further compromises a secondary that’s already lost cornerback Marcus Peters to a season-ending ACL injury. Cornerback Tavon Young, who played Monday, is “still [in] the process” of coming back from his own season-ending ACL injury last season, coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale said Thursday.
No team has more players on IR than the Ravens. Among those lost for the season are running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, inside linebacker L.J. Fort and Peters. Wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin, tight end Nick Boyle and offensive lineman Tyre Phillips are on short-term IR.
