Ravens are narrow favorites in ‘Monday Night Football’ showdown vs. Chiefs

The Ravens are field-goal favorites over the visiting Kansas City Chiefs ahead of their “Monday Night Football” matchup, according to Las Vegas sportsbooks.

The Ravens (2-0) opened as 2½-point favorites over the Chiefs (2-0) and Super Bowl LIV Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes, but the line has since widened to 3½ points. No defending champion has entered a game as an undefeated underdog since the Denver Broncos, in their 2016 season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

The Ravens have easily covered the spread in their first two games, a home blowout of the Cleveland Browns and Sunday’s comfortable road win over the Houston Texans. Kansas City, meanwhile, followed a double-digit home win over Houston with an overtime win in Los Angeles over the Chargers.

Monday’s game will pit the NFL’s past two Most Valuable Players against each other. Mahomes is 2-0 against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, with both wins coming at home. The Chiefs have been underdogs in just six regular-season games in Mahomes' career. In those games, they’re 4-2 overall and 5-0-1 against the spread.

But the Ravens are undefeated and 8-4 against the spread in their past 12 prime-time home games. They’ve also won 14 straight regular-season games and are 11-1 at M&T Bank Stadium (playoffs excluded) since mid-November 2018.

The over-under for Sunday’s game is 53½ points.
