Baltimore Sun columnist Mike Preston picks three key matchups in the Ravens' game against the San Francisco 49ers.
49ers RB Carlos Hyde vs. Ravens ILBs C.J. Mosley and Daryl Smith: Hyde has rushed for 375 yards on 83 carries and is multi-dimensional. He is quick and has great expolsion, but also can lower his head and run with power. Smith leads the team in tackles with 46 and Mosley is second with 29. Last week against Cleveland, they played their worst game as a tandem in two seasons. They will try to regroup Sunday. Edge: Even.
49ers ILBs NaVorro Bowman and Michael Wilhoite vs. Ravens Gs Marshal Yanda and Kelechi Osemele: Bowman has 44 tackles to lead San Francisco and Wilhoite is third with 37. Yanda and Osemele have to get to them to slow the 49ers run defense, which is ranked 17th in the league. The 49ers like to bring pressure, especially up the middle, so Yanda and Osemele have to be on high alert. Edge: Ravens.
49ers WR Anquan Boldin vs. CBs Jimmy Smith, Kyle Arrington and Lardarius Webb: The Ravens know what they are facing in Boldin. He isn't the fastest receiver in the league, but he has strong hands. He is also a tremendous competitor and the 49ers do a good job of moving him around outside and in the slot. He'll want to play well against his old teammates. The Ravens will be able to run with Boldin, but only Smith can match up with him physically. Edge: 49ers.
