Titans' Chase Coffman says he didn't intentionally knock down Ravens assistant

Coffman was running a sideline pattern in the fourth quarter of the Ravens' 21-7 win over the Titans at M&T Bank Stadium on Nov. 9 when he ran out of bounds and crushed an unsuspecting Coaxum. Coffman then appeared to drag his cleats across Coaxum before returning to the field.

Coaxum is a former Army assistant coach and cornerback who is on a season-long internship working with special-teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg.

"[Coffman] said he had inadvertently run into that," Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters. "In fact, he tried to find the coach after the game to apologize and reached out to them. I guess they chose to go ahead [and fine him], and that's unfortunate.

"But nobody's approached him about his side of it. If you look at it, if you see the whole play, he was trying to stop and inadvertently ran into him."

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that he was told by the Titans that it was unintentional.

"I know the league, they have levels of protocol and standards and histories and things like that that they work very hard at," Harbaugh said Monday when asked about Coffman's punishment. "We don't ever really question that part of it. That's in their purview. I was told it wasn't intentional, so I take them at their word on that and we move forward."
