Timmy Jernigan, Jimmy Smith absent from Ravens practice on Thursday

Of the seven players absent from the portion of Ravens practice open to the media on Thursday, the most notable one was defensive end Timmy Jernigan, who was out with what the team described as a shoulder ailment.

Jernigan, who ranks second on the defense in sacks (five) and fifth in tackles (26), practiced fully Wednesday and was not listed on the team's injury report.


Running back Lorenzo Taliaferro was also not present. He participated on a limited basis Wednesday due to a thigh ailment.

Three players who did not practice Wednesday were also absent Thursday. They are cornerback Jimmy Smith (back), rookie left guard Alex Lewis (high right ankle sprain), and tight end Crockett Gillmore (pulled hamstring).


Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (torn left biceps) and center Jeremy Zuttah (sprained ankle) had a day off for veteran players.

Inside linebacker C.J. Mosley (hamstring), who was limited Wednesday, participated fully. Four players who fully participated in Wednesday's session – outside linebackers Elvis Dumervil (foot) and rookie Kamalei Correa (thigh), cornerback Shareece Wright (pulled hamstring), and right guard Marshal Yanda (shoulder) – were also taking part Thursday.

Dallas starting left tackle Tyron Smith (bulging disc in back, hip flexor) practiced on a limited basis Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's session. Two starters in strong safety Barry Church (fractured right forearm) and cornerback Morris Claiborne (strained groin) sat out their second straight practice.

Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who sacked Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in Sunday's 35-30 win, was limited by a back ailment for a second consecutive day. Backup quarterback Tony Romo (broken bone in back) participated fully again.
