Former Ravens free safety Ed Reed is already dealing with a medical issue since joining the Houston Texans that will sideline him for at least the remainder of the offseason.
The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year had hip surgery last week to address a labral tear, Texans coach Gary Kubiak told Houston reporters today. Reed had hip surgery in 2010 when he was with the Ravens, but didn't miss a start the past two seasons.
Signed to a three-year, $15 million contract, Reed is expected to be back by training camp. Reed, 34, is entering his 12th NFL season.
"He'll miss the offseason program, and it's just something we'll have to work through," Kubiak said. "We'll get him healthy, and he should be fine. We've got to get the young safeties ready to go. They'll get a lot of reps."
