Six-time Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs returned to the practice field Monday for the first time since the Ravens opened training camp last month in Owings Mills.
Suggs, 33, is coming back after suffering a season-ending Achilles tendon tear in the 2015 opener against Denver. It was the second time Suggs had torn the Achilles in the past four years.
Suggs said in a statement released by the team, "Darth Sizzle is back. It felt great to be back on the field with the team, there is nothing like it."
Several other Ravens who had missed a number of practices also returned, including tight end Crockett Gilmore, wide receiver and punt returner Michael Campanaro (River Hill) and rookie cornerback Maurice Canady.
The return of Suggs was not a surprise, since Ravens coach John Harbaugh had said last week week that the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year had been asking for awhile to get back on the practice field.
Suggs had been one of five players to start training camp on the Physically Unable To Perform List. Harbaugh said last week that he expects outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil as well as wide receivers Steve Smith Sr. and Breshad Perriman to be ready for the season opener against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 11. Those three remain on the PUP list as well as running back Lorenzo Taliaferro.
