Super Bowl organizers prepared to cancel 2nd date

INDIANAPOLIS — Super Bowl organizers will likely cancel a second weekend of bookings when the league's players and owners agree to a new collective bargaining agreement.

Indianapolis host committee chairman Mark Miles says he anticipates telling hoteliers soon after the two sides ratify a deal to end the four-month lockout. Miles made his comments about one hour before player representatives left the headquarters of the former NFL Players Association on Wednesday.

The hope was players and owners would both ratify a new CBA this week, and team facilities would be open this weekend. Miles was hoping for the same thing.

Miles says organizers have ignored the lockout as they have proceeded with plans to play the game Feb. 5 as scheduled. It's the first time Indy has hosted a Super Bowl.
