The Ravens are maintaining their tradition of resting their starters during the preseason. Besides Flacco, the following players on offense aren't slated to play: wide receivers Torrey Smith and Steve Smith, tight end Dennis Pitta, offensive linemen Eugene Monroe, Kelechi Osemele, Jeremy Zuttah, Marshal Yanda and Rick Wagner, fullback Kyle Juszczyk and running back Ray Rice. Injured offensive players who won't play include offensive tackle Jah Reid (concussion), running back Bernard Pierce (concussion) and tight end Owen Daniels (leg swelling, soreness). Daniels just returned to practice this week on a limited basis. The Ravens may also opt to rest proven veterans like wide receiver Jacoby Jones. Defensive starters not expected to play: defensive linemen Haloti Ngata, Brandon Williams and Chris Canty, linebackers Terrell Suggs, Courtney Upshaw, Elvis Dumervil, C.J. Mosley and Daryl Smith and safeties Matt Elam and Darian Stewart. Not playing because of injuries: cornerbacks Jimmy Smith (chest contusion), Lardarius Webb (lower back) and Asa Jackson (sprained ankle).
