With running back Le'Veon Bell's status uncertain for Saturday night's AFC wild-card game against the Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran Ben Tate as insurance Tuesday.

Tate was last with the Minnesota Vikings after being claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Browns earlier this year. He played in three games for Minnesota before being cut, rushing for 38 yards on 13 carries.

Tate complained repeatedly about his diminished role in Cleveland and having to split time with rookie running backs Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell before being released.

Tate, who was signed to a two-year, $6.2 million contract by the Browns during the offseason, was previously a backup for the Houston Texans behind Arian Foster.
