Veteran attorney Peter Ginsberg has been retained to represent former Ravens running back Ray Rice in his legal matters involving the NFL, according to a source.
Ginsberg previously represented former New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma in the Bountygate scandal.
The NFL Players Association has filed an appeal of Rice's indefinite suspension levied by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Rice's $35 million contract was terminated by the Ravens after a graphic video surfaced that showed Rice knocking out his then-fiancee, Janay, whom he later married, in a casino elevator.
Potential litigation against the NFL and the Ravens separate from the appeal have been contemplated, but nothing has been filed, according to sources.
Ginsberg didn't immediately return a telephone call and a text message from The Baltimore Sun.
Ginsberg also has represented former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin and professional golfer Vijay Singh.
