INDIANAPOLIS — Wisconsin All-American offensive tackle and Mount Airy native Rob Havenstein had a rough outing at the NFL scouting combine.
The 6-foot-7, 321-pound former Linganore all-state lineman bench pressed 225 pounds only 16 times. That was the lowest of any of the 37 offensive linemen that did the test.
The All-American also ranked 31st in the 40-yard dash with a 5.46 time, tied for 29th with an 8-foot broad jump and was 23rd in the vertical leap with a 28 1/2 inch jump.
What does it mean? It's not an entirely unexpected showing for Havenstein, whose size, intelligence and toughness are the strengths of his game. NFL scouts will want to see improvement from Havenstein by his Pro Day, especially in the weight room.
Havenstein has been projected as a fourth-round to fifth-round draft target.
He was an All-Big Ten Conference selection last season and played in a Wisconsin school-record 54 career games, including 42 starts.
Havenstein was a National Honor Society student at Linganore who helped lead them to a 14-0 season and a Class 3A state title in 2009 before signing with the Badgers where he blocked for star running backs Melvin Gordon, Montee Ball and James White.
