Rice in running for weekly award

Ray Rice's career day in the Ravens' 24-10 win against the Cleveland Browns has earned the running back a spot in the competition to be named the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week.

Rice set a career best when he rushed for 204 yards on 29 carries Sunday. Rice, who also scored a touchdown, boasted the highest yards-per-carry average (7.0) among all tailbacks with more than 10 attempts this past weekend.

Rice earned a similar nomination after the Ravens' 31-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 20 when he posted 104 yards and two touchdowns, but the Detroit Lions' Kevin Smith got more votes. Rice also lost to the Philadelphia Eagles' LeSean McCoy after Week 1.

Rice is vying for the award with the Tennessee Titans' Chris Johnson (153 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-17 win against the Buffalo Bills) and the Seattle Seahawks' Marshawn Lynch (148 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles).
