Former Ravens linebacker O.J. Brigance is holding his second annual 5K run in Canton on April 25.
Registration for the Brigance Brigade Foundation 5.7-kilometer championship run and one-mile family run-walk is now open through his website at brigancebrigade.org. The run benefits research for and support of families dealing with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive motor neuron disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The Ravens' senior advisor to player development, Brigance was diagnosed with ALS in 2007. He won a Super Bowl with the Ravens after the 2000 season and also won a Grey Cup championship with the Baltimore Stallions.
"Chanda and I, the Brigance Brigade staff and the great team at Corrigan Sports Enterprises are excited to bring the 5.7K Championship Run and 1 Mile Family Run/Walk back to Canton for our second year," Brigance said in a statement. "This is an exciting time for the ALS community, the disease we have been struggling to fight is finally beginning to get the attention it deserves and the Brigance Brigade Foundation is just trying to do our part in bringing awareness to the cause and giving help to those fighting it.
"It has been encouraging to see the growing awareness of ALS among people in this country over the last year through things like the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, FOX's new show Empire, a speech at the SAG Awards and various people across the country announcing that they have been diagnosed. We hope people will continue to shine a light on the struggle of patients dealing with ALS, and we are thrilled to have the support of the Baltimore community and the Canton neighborhood and local businesses to host this event in our city."
