Redding joins Boldin, Cundiff as inactives

In somewhat of a surprise, Ravens defensive end Cory Redding will not play in Saturday's home game against the Cleveland Browns because of lingering issues with his injured right ankle.

Redding had expressed confidence he would be able to play – as he did in Sunday night's 34-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers – but he did not practice Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday before being limited in Friday's walkthrough. Defensive tackle Arthur Jones will make his first career start in Redding's place.

Redding joins wide receiver Anquan Boldin and kicker Billy Cundiff as inactives. Boldin underwent knee surgery Thursday to repair what coach John Harbaugh called a slight meniscus tear and is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.

Lee Evans will join rookie Torrey Smith as the starting wide receivers. It will be Evans' first start since Sept. 18 against the Tennessee Titans.

Cundiff had been ruled out by Harbaugh on Thursday. Cundiff's balky left calf persuaded the organization to sign free agent Shayne Graham to the roster Wednesday.

The Ravens also deactivated cornerback Danny Gorrer, outside linebacker Sergio Kindle, rookie wide receiver LaQuan Williams and rookie running back Anthony Allen.

The decision to sit Williams means that rookie wide receiver Tandon Doss will be active for the first time since Oct. 30 against the Arizona Cardinals. Doss, a fourth-round pick in April, has yet to make a catch.

Cleveland – as expected – deactivated quarterback Colt McCoy, who is still suffering from post-concussion symptoms. Seneca Wallace will make his second consecutive start.

Four starters who had been listed as questionable – cornerback Joe Haden (thigh), wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (foot), right tackle Tony Pashos (ankle) and fullback Owen Marecic (head/ankle) – are active. Return specialist Joshua Cribbs (groin) will also play.

In addition to McCoy, the Browns scratched wide receivers Jordan Norwood (head) and Rod Windsor, offensive tackle Oniel Cousins, cornerback James Dockery, center Steve Vallos and defensive lineman Kiante Tripp.
