Heinz Field's playing surface 'terrible,' Ravens' Torrey Smith says

Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was critical of the playing conditions at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the site of Saturday night's AFC wild-card playoff game.

Because the grass field is also used by the University of Pittsburgh and for high school state championships, it tends to get sloppy late in the year and has frequently been resodded.

The field is expected to be extremely water-logged Saturday with rain in the forecast.

"It's terrible, man," Smith said. "They need to go ahead and put some turf up there or something. Apparently, the field gets a lot of use.

"That's good for them, but it's terrible for us playing this late. But I'm sure they'll do a great job prepping it. We'll use our fundamentals."
