Setting the scene: The Ravens took the field in full pads a little before 10 a.m. for the first time since Wednesday, with veterans finishing their work at 1:30 p.m. and the remainder of the team running special teams drills until 2 p.m. It appeared it might rain, but the precipitation held off.

Complete to Jones: Wide receiver Jacoby Jones had his best day of camp Saturday; he may have caught more passes than the rest of the receiving corps combined. Jones' speed makes him one of the team's deep threats, but he was used on short and intermediate crossing routes frequently Saturday, and with great success.

Big chance: With starting guards Kelechi Osemele and Marshal Yanda given the day off, reserves Ryan Jensen and A.Q. Shipley were promoted to first-team duty and rookies Parker Graham and John Urschel took second-team reps. The first-team fill-ins held their own, but Urschel stepped his game up the most in his increased playing time. He plugged the right side of the line well on a strong drive from the second unit and had his best overall practice of training camp.

Touchdown Tyrod: Each offensive unit got a crack at fourth-and-goal from inside the 5-yard line, but only backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor came away with six points. Taylor, who had a strong practice and also led a long touchdown drive earlier in the day, found a leaping Kamar Aiken in the back of the end zone for the score.

Just Joshin' you: Inside linebacker Josh Bynes has been strong on the inside as a first-team linebacker alongside rookie linebacker C.J. Mosley, but had a moment he probably wishes he could have back. Wide receiver Torrey Smith had a Joe Flacco pass bounce off his hands over the middle, and Bynes swatted at it multiple times before the pass hit the grass. Suggs made the fourth-year linebacker do push-ups at midfield, a punishment reserved for players who drop interceptions.

Top tackles: Second-year defensive tackles Brandon Williams and Kapron Lewis-Moore both shone in their own ways Saturday. Williams was a pest on the defensive front and swatted down a Flacco pass mid-practice, while Lewis-Moore got the better of Jensen several times in the pass rush. After one such play, Jensen started a skirmish with Lewis-Moore, but it didn't escalate.

Family day: The veterans who got out of practice early spent time with each other's families, creating some nice scenes on the sidelines. Flacco, wide receiver Steve Smith and Ray Rice all visited with families, which included Dennis Pitta's wife and child, and several other players' wives and children.

Lt. Ray: A youth football player in attendance lost a 20-yard dash to Ray Rice after practice, with a set of push-ups on the line. Rice was going to have his team count for him, but Jones suggested they all join him, so Rice stood sentry as 15 Pop Warner players did push-ups at his feet.

Injury Report: Wide receiver Michael Campanaro left practice early after falling on the football during a play. X-rays showed the former River Hill player suffered only a bruise. Rookie defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan was present at practice but still out with back spasms. Long-term absentees included cornerback Lardarius Webb (back), guard Will Rackley (head), inside linebacker Daryl Smith (groin), defensive tackle Terrence Cody (hip) and defensive end Brent Urban (torn anterior cruciate ligament). Osemele and Yanda had the day off, as did tight end Owen Daniels and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee.

Overheard: "You can't say you want that swag defense, then when we're kicking their [butts], send a man off practice!" -- Suggs, after coach John Harbaugh sent cornerback Chykie Brown off the practice field. Brown dropped an interception and kicked the ball upfield, drawing a penalty and earning a brief ejection from practice.
