Ravens training camp breakdown: defensive line

The countdown will start at the position with the least intriguing roster competition and end at the most spirited.

On Wednesday, we started the countdown at quarterback. Today, we'll examine the defensive line.

How many they'll keep: 7

Locks if healthy: Brandon Williams, Timmy Jernigan, Lawrence Guy, Brent Urban, Bronson Kaufusi, Carl Davis, Willie Henry

On the bubble: Kapron Lewis-Moore

Long shots: Trevon Coley, Michael Pierce

Skinny: The Ravens love amassing defensive linemen, which is why the roster battle at this position is annually one of the fiercest in training camp.

But the decisions the coaching staff must make here are lacking in buzz. Sure, the Ravens have to find a starting defensive end after Chris Canty was let go, but that figures to be settled with a platoon: the underrated Guy playing on running downs, and Urban or Kaufusi, a third-round draft pick, rushing the quarterback on passing downs.

Otherwise, the Ravens figure to be just about set with a defensive line rotation headed by Williams and Jernigan. A good training camp should help Davis get more snaps after an uneven rookie season, and any contributions the Ravens get from Henry, a fourth-round pick, will be a bonus. The Ravens like maintaining a deep defensive line rotation, so there should be plenty of opportunities for everyone.

Lewis-Moore, who has persevered through several injuries and is a favorite in the locker room, has an uphill battle to make the team.
