After signing a six-year, $42 million contract in 2009, Canty became a salary cap casualty last month. He visited The Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans before signing with the Ravens today.
The Ravens had been looking for a five-technique defensive lineman to fill the role that was occupied by Cory Redding before he signed with the Indianapolis Colts last offseason. They tried several players in that role during the 2012-13 campaign.
Canty is the Ravens' first unrestricted free agent addition. Earlier in the day, they lost linebackers Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe to the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins respectively.
