Ravens place Terrence Cody on physically unable to perform list

The Ravens have placed backup nose tackle Terrence Cody on the physically unable to perform list for the start of training camp.

Cody underwent offseason hip surgery and was unable to practice during minicamps and organized team activities.

Cody can be activated from the list at any time during training camp once he's able to practice.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in the spring that Cody had a chance to be back in time for training camp and that he was making progress.

Cody was signed to a one-year, $730,000 contract in March that includes no guaranteed money.

At that time, the 6-foot-4, 340-pound former second-round draft pick from Alabama said he didn't expect to need to have any additional surgeries after undergoing hip and elbow surgeries last year.

He subsequently underwent the hip procedure after being signed.

Cody recorded 15 tackles in a dozen games last season with one start.

In four NFL seasons, the former consensus All-American has 87 career tackles and two pass deflections with no sacks or forced fumbles.
