The Ravens have placed former University of Maryland tight end Matt Furstenburg on the practice squad injured reserve list and signed tight end Nathan Overbay to the practice squad to replace him.
Furstenburg is undergoing a minor procedure to repair a slight sports hernia.
Furstenburg is paid an elevated practice squad salary of $136,000 this season, a rate of $8,000 per week and more than the standard $102,000 for practice squad members.
It's a sign of high regard for Furstenburg, a 6-foot-3, 244-pound New Jersey native who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds. He caught 60 passes for 769 yards and five touchdowns for the Terrapins.
Overbay was with the Houston Texans earlier this season and has previous stints with the Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder from Eastern Washington hasn't played in an NFL regular season game.
