Ravens paying wide receiver Aldrick Robinson an upgraded practice squad salary

When the Ravens signed former Washington Redskins wide receiver Aldrick Robinson to their practice squad this week, they agreed to pay him an upgraded weekly salary.

Robinson is making $10,000 per week, above the usual practice squad rate of $6,300 per week.

NFL teams typically do that as an enticement to make it more palatable for a veteran player like Robinson to join their practice squad.

Robinson was a 2011 sixth-round draft pick by the Redskins from Southern Methodist. He has caught 30 career passes for 608 yards and five touchdowns, including one pass for six yards in five games this season.

Meanwhile, the Ravens' one-year contract with cornerback Antoine Cason is for the veteran minimum of $730,000.

Cason will make $128,824 in cash. Under the minimum salary benefit, Cason's salary-cap figure for the remainder of the regular season is $100,588.

The Ravens are $6.06 million under the NFL salary-cap limit of $133 million, including $1.411 million in cap space held for a pending wrongful termination grievance filed by former Ravens running back Ray Rice. Rice's grievance hearing against the Ravens is set for Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, according to sources.
