The Ravens are paying wide receiver Deonte Thompson more than double the usual rate for a weekly practice squad salary.
Thompson is being paid $17,000 per week for a season rate of $289,000, well above the usual rate of $6,300 per week and $107,100 for the year,
The reason is to make it more palatable for Thompson to remain with the Ravens rather than sign with another team. On the active roster before being released twice, Thompson was making $570,000 for the year.
Thompson isn't the only upgraded salary on the Ravens' 10-man practice squad.
The Ravens are paying outside linebacker John Simon, a fourth-round draft pick in 2013, $170,000 for the year or $17,000 per week.
Offensive lineman Ryan Jensen, a sixth-round draft pick in 2013, is making $6,500 per week for a yearly salary of $110,500.
