The Ravens are devoting extra money to their practice squad.

That includes a $255,000 upgraded salary for inside linebacker Josh Bynes. Bynes was signed to the practice squad under an exception for experienced players like himself, allowed under the expanded practice squad rules adopted this year.

Bynes was originally due a $570,000 salary under an exclusive-rights free-agent deal.

Now, Bynes is being paid $15,000 per week. The usual practice squad rate is $6,300 per week for a total of $107,100 for the year.

Bynes started six games last season and made 45 tackles. Bynes made the final tackle of Super Bowl XLVII when he brought down San Francisco 49ers return specialist Ted Ginn Jr.

Meanwhile, outside linebacker John Simon is due a $170,000 practice squad salary at a rate of $10,000 per week. A 2013 fourth-round draft pick from Ohio State, Simon is a former Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Former sixth-round offensive lineman Ryan Jensen and former Arizona Cardinals third-round cornerback Jamell Fleming are being paid $110,500 practice squad salaries at a rate of 6,500 per week.

Meanwhile, the Ravens reached injury settlements this week with fullback Shaun Chapas ($58,765, shoulder) and offensive tackle Brett Van Sloten ($58,741, sprained medial collateral ligament).
