Ravens tackle Rick Wagner has successful foot surgery, source says

Ravens right tackle Rick Wagner underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a Lisfranc foot sprain, according to a source.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. Anderson is the Carolina Panthers' team doctor and is regarded as one of the top foot and ankle specialists. Anderson also operated on Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith when he suffered a Lisfranc foot sprain, an injury in which one or more of the metatarsal bones are displaced.

The typical recovery period is five to six months, a timetable that should allow Wagner to recover in time for next season. Wagner injured his foot during Sunday's 23-15 loss to the Houston Texans.

Wagner drew high marks from the coaching staff during his first season as a starter, allowing just two sacks as one of the highest-graded right tackles in the NFL. The 2013 fifth-round draft pick from Wisconsin was an upgrade over former starting right tackle Michael Oher, who signed with the Tennessee Titans in the offseason.
