Ravens national scout Joe Douglas, one of the most respected scouts in the NFL, is leaving the team to join the Chicago Bears as their new director of college scouting, according to league sources.
Under new Bears general manager Ryan Pace, Douglas replaces Marty Barrett, whose contract wasn't renewed.
The current plan is to not replace Douglas, whose duties will be handled by other members of the Ravens' personnel department.
Douglas was instrumental in the Ravens drafting quarterback Joe Flacco in the first round in 2008 when Douglas was a Northeast area scout and recommended Flacco.
Douglas had been the Ravens' national scout for the past four years, but joined the organization in 2000 when he was hired as a player personnel assistant.
Douglas was a Northeast area scout from 2003-2008 before shifting to Southeast area scout for three years prior to his promotion to national scout.
Douglas also worked in tandem with Northeast area scout Mark Azevedo in organizing the Ravens' undrafted rookie free agent signings.
Douglas started 45 consecutive games at offensive tackle at the University of Richmond, where he was an All-Atlantic-10 selection.
