On the first official day of the NFL offseason, Las Vegas oddsmakers aren't very optimistic about the Ravens' chances of winning next year's Super Bowl.
According to Bovada, the 2014 Ravens have 40/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Ariz. Only nine teams face longer odds to win next year's Super Bowl than the Ravens, who went 8-8 this past season in defense of their title and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
Of course, the Seattle Seahawks who won Super Bowl XLVIII with a dominating 43-8 victory Sunday over the Denver Broncos, are the early favorites and have 9/2 odds to repeat. The Seahawks' top rival, the San Francisco 49ers, face 15/2 odds while Peyton Manning's Broncos are 8/1.
The New England Patriots (14/1), Green Bay Packers (16/1) and New Orleans Saints (18/1) round out the top six favorites.
Among the teams that also have better odds than the Ravens are the division rival Cincinnati Bengals (25/1) and Pittsburgh Steelers (33/1), Jim Caldwell's Detroit Lions (33/1) and the Atlanta Falcons (25/1).
The Washington Redskins, who went 3-13 this past season, and the Houston Texans, who were 2-14 and possess the first overall pick in May's draft, have the same 40/1 odds as the Ravens.
Of course, with free agency over a month away and the draft still over three months away, none of this means a whole lot, but I figured it was worth passing along.
