Tall and athletic, Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson has made a lot of progress since arriving on campus as a 154-pound freshman.
As a freshman at River Hill, Johnson was just 5 feet tall and 96 pounds. Now, the 6-foot, 188-pound all-conference selection is projected to go in the first round.
And Johnson has made a strong impression on NFL personnel, including Ravens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta.
"He's extremely athletic," DeCosta said of Johnson, who met with the Ravens at the NFL scouting combine. "Very very good feet, sudden, great man-to-man skills, can play zone. I think he's a tough kid. He's played at a high level of football.
"He's a good prospect. He's probably a first-round guy, if not first-round, definitely a second-round prospect. Good player."
Johnson has a visit with the Dallas Cowboys this week and has had private workouts with the San Diego Chargers, Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, a dinner meeting with Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and secondary coach Carnell Lake and upcoming private workouts with the New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers.
Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds at the combine with a 41.5-inch vertical leap, a 10-10 broad jump, a 3.89 short shuttle and a 6.79 three-cone drill.
"Everything has been going really well," Johnson told The Baltimore Sun this week. "You never know what people are thinking, but I'm excited about it. Everything I've been hearing is very positive."
