Ravens cornerback Rashaan Melvin will undergo a surgical procedure to repair damage to his shoulder, according to coach John Harbaugh.
An exclusive-rights free agent, Melvin is expected to return for organized team activities and minicamps.
Melvin is the only Ravens player scheduled to undergo surgery at this time. The Ravens ended the season with 19 players on injured reserve.
Melvin is a former Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers player who emerged as a starter at the end of the season due to multiple season-ending injuries at cornerback, including Jimmy Smith, Asa Jackson and Danny Gorrer.
Melvin played five games, including three starts. He had 17 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass deflection during the regular season.
Melvin got picked on frequently by New England Patgriots quarterback Tom Brady during the Ravens' AFC divisional-round playoff game loss at Gillette Stadium last Saturday.
Melvin allowed 15 receptions for 224 yards and two touchdowns, including a 51-yard pass to Danny Amendola on a trick play and a 23-yard game-winning score to Brandon LaFell. He was targeted 19 times and had 11 tackles.
