Ravens top cornerback Jimmy Smith was not on the practice field for a third consecutive day, casting further doubt on whether he'll be able to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Smith is dealing with a back injury. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that he thought Smith would be fine to face the Cowboys. However, he also said that he expected Smith to practice this week and the former first-round pick obviously didn't progress well enough to be on the practice field.
If Smith can't play, it would be a significant blow to the Ravens' defense, which won't have a big corner to match up physically with Cowboys top receiver Dez Bryant.
Ravens defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan (shoulder) also wasn't practicing for a second straight day. It's unclear if he's in jeopardy of not playing Sunday.
The Ravens are expected to be without running back Lorenzo Taliaferro (thigh), tight end Crockett Gillmore (thigh) and starting left guard Alex Lewis (ankle).
