Ravens coach John Harbaugh wishes he had do-over on fourth-quarter penalty call

Sunday was one of those times when Ravens coach John Harbaugh would have liked a rewind button.Ravens fans have questioned why the team chose to accept a 16-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on Oakland Raiders right guard Gabe Jackson on a third down-and-1 play from the Ravens' 20-yard line after the defense had stopped running back Latavius Murray for a 5-yard loss.Harbaugh said after the game that the intent was to drive Oakland – which had a 14-12 lead at the time – and kicker Sebastian Janikowski further back for a potential field goal, but that he did consider declining the penalty.&quot;What you try to do, is you try to back them up and make it a tougher kick from an angle perspective,&quot; Harbaugh said. &quot;I wanted to keep it as a field goal game. Looking back on it, it wasn't the right decision. I didn't really believe, I didn't really have a sense that that many points were going to be scored down the stretch. It didn't seem like it was going to be played that way. It seemed like it was going to come down to a field goal right there. I wanted to keep it in that range. Looking back on it, I would have done it differently, in hindsight.&quot;The decision proved costly. Quarterback Derek Carr connected with wide receiver Amari Cooper for a 16-yard completion on third-and-17 from the 36 and then induced nose tackle Brandon Williams into jumping offside on fourth-and-1 from the 20. Three plays later, Carr hit wide receiver Michael Crabtree for a 13-yard touchdown strike (their second of three such scores) to extend the Raiders' advantage to 21-12 en route to a 28-27 win.For what it's worth, outside linebacker Terrell Suggs did not appear to second-guess Harbaugh's decision.&quot;I know what our coach thinks on our ability to block field goals,&quot; he said. &quot;We have blocked two in three weeks. I like a coach making a decision like that and trying to make it a more difficult field goal. We just have to execute. That is more on us. We just have to have our coach's back when he makes a decision like that.&quot;I think we flat-out just got outplayed offensively, defensively and on special teams. You have to commend the Oakland Raiders for sticking to their game plan and executing. It is just one lost opportunity. After the first quarter of the NFL, we are 3-1. We have another home game next week, and we will just continue chopping away.&quot;
