Ravens add return specialist Jeremy Ross to practice squad

Ravens' practice squad includes three wide receivers, two tight ends.

The Ravens’ final three practice squad moves were highlighted by the addition of a veteran who has experience as a return man.

The team announced Monday that it filled its 10-man practice squad by signing wide receiver Jeremy Ross, tight end Dominique Jones and wide receiver Daniel Brown.

Ross is the biggest name on the list as he’s been in the NFL since 2011 and he spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions.

Ross, 27, was the Lions’ primary return man last year, averaging 8.9 yards on 32 punt returns and 25.4 yards on 23 kickoff returns.

In his career, which also included stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers in 2011 through 2013, Ross has two career return touchdowns and has averaged 12.3 yards per punt return and 25.2 yards per kickoff return. The Ravens have been searching for a return man after waiving mistake-prone Asa Jackson on Saturday. As a receiver, Ross has 30 catches for 381 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones, 28, has played parts of three seasons in the NFL, playing four games with the Colts in 2012 and six the following season. He also played in two games with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 and one game with the Denver Broncos last year. In 13 career games, Jones has three catches for 42 yards.

The additions leave the Ravens’ practice squad full. The 10 members, according to the team, are: wide receivers Ross, Brown and Jeremy Butler; tight ends Jones and Konrad Reuland; offensive linemen Kaleb Johnson and De’Ondre Wesley; outside linebacker Brennen Beyer and safety Nick Perry.

A source confirmed that former Houston Texans cornerback Charles James, one of the stars of the HBO show “Hard Knocks,” will also join the Ravens practice squad. However, it’s unclear at the moment how the Ravens will make room for him, or if he’s now a candidate to join the active roster.
