Ravens' preseason schedule is released

The Ravens' 2012 regular-season schedule won't be released until later this month, but the team's preseason slate is now set.

They'll face the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars at M&T Bank Stadium, and play road preseason games against the Atlanta Falcons andSt. Louis Rams.

The Ravens open preseason play at Atlanta on Thursday, Aug. 9, and conclude it on Thursday, Aug. 30 in St. Louis.

Their preseason home opener against the Lions, which will serve as a homecoming for Detroit coach Jim Schwartz, who is a Mount St. Joseph alum, will take place on Friday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on FOX.

Jacksonville will visit M&T Bank Stadium for the third preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 23.

Only the Lions' game has a set time as of now because it will be nationally televised.

Aside from Atlanta, the preseason schedule is a little abnormal for the Ravens, partly because they will play the NFC East teams during the regular season. The Washington Redskins, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles have been frequent preseason competitors over the years, but the Ravens will have to wait for the regular season to oppose all three teams.

They have played the Falcons eight times in the preseason, six of those games taking place at the Georgia Dome. The Ravens beat the Falcons, 21-7, in preseason action last year.

The Ravens will be playing the Lions and Rams for the third time in preseason action, and the Jaguars for the first time.

The NFL is expected to release its regular-season schedule in the next couple of weeks. The Ravens' opponents are set with home games against the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys; and road games against the Bengals, Browns, Steelers, Redskins, Eagles, San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.

Dates and times for those games will be released later this month.
