Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs makes preseason debut for Ravens

"I needed to feel like a hit. I needed to get hit," said Terrell Suggs when asked about the Lions starting the game running at him. (Kevin Richardson)

A sizable number of Ravens players sat out the third preseason game for both teams. But the return of a fan favorite not named Joe Flacco delighted the crowd.

Six-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs played for the first time since suffering a torn left Achilles tendon in the 2015 season opener at the Denver Broncos. Although he played only in the first quarter and finished with just two tackles, Suggs did not appear inhibited by his surgically repaired tendon.

"It felt great, I'm not going to lie," Suggs said to a pool reporter at halftime. "I keep being reminded of how fortunate I am every time I line up on that field. You never really know how much you miss something until you don't have it anymore. I've really missed being out there, so I loved every minute of tonight."

The 33-year-old Suggs, the longest-tenured Ravens player, was activated from the team's physically unable to perform list on Aug. 15. He and outside linebacker Albert McClellan were at the front of the line greeting members of the starting offense as they ran out of the tunnel prior to the start of the contest.

Suggs' return provided a lift to a starting defense that missed nose tackle Brandon Williams (contusion), outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil (foot surgery) and free safety Lardarius Webb (unspecified).
