As the NFL draft approaches, the Ravens have scheduled visits with a number of top running backs. That list includes Wisconsin star Melvin Gordon and Indiana standout Tevin Coleman.
Although the Ravens aren't bringing Minnesota running back David Cobb in to their training complex for a visit, sources indicated they've displayed consistent interest in him and have a high opinion of the All-Big Ten Conference second-team selection.
Cobb has four official visits with other NFL teams, according to sources.
The Ravens talked with Cobb at the Senior Bowl and the NFL scouting combine.
Cobb has drawn third-round grades from NFL draft analysts. If the Ravens don't draft a running back to work in tandem with veteran Justin Forsett in the first or second round, Cobb could be a strong option in the third round, if he's available.
Cobb is coming off a quadriceps injury that he suffered at the combine while running a 4.81 in the 40-yard dash.
Cobb was still recovering from the injury and didn't work out at the Golden Gophers' pro day. At the combine, he bench pressed 225 pounds 17 times and had a 38.5-inch vertical leap.
Cobb is a powerful downhill runner at 5 feet 11, 229 pounds. He displayed good vision last season as he rushed for a school-record 1,626 yards and 13 touchdowns. Cobb rushed for 1,202 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior.
At the Senior Bowl, Cobb rushed for 69 yards on 11 carries and caught the ball well all week.
He rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns during a loss to eventual national champion Ohio State last season.
