The Ravens have concerns, but Joe Flacco isn't one of them

"Terminology-wise, it’s pretty darn similar, said QB Joe Flacco. "We’ve tried to keep a lot of the formations the same, so it’s not that tough on a lot of the guys that have been here for the last year." (Kevin Richardson)

The best thing to say about Joe Flacco is that there is nothing to say about Joe Flacco.

Before each of his last seven seasons, there were always questions or concerns about the former No. 1 pick out of the University of Delaware.

Last off season, we wondered if his feet were quick and arm accurate enough in the short passing game to run the West Coast offense.

There was criticism, though not very valid, that the Ravens quarterback  needed to work more with his receivers during the off season outside of the OTA's and mini-camps at The Castle. And all Flacco did was establish career highs in passing yards (3,986) and touchdown passes (27).

So even with Marc Trestman replacing Gary Kubiak as the Ravens' offensive coordinator this season, it is not really a big deal because Flacco has had four different ones in the last four years.

"Well, I think it's just a statement to how flexible he is," Trestman said. "He has the ability to work with different guys and positive things happen, and that's a good sign. I've enjoyed working with him.

"He has been open-minded and we're working together. We're doing this together to try not to only be consistent with the play that he has had, but to continually try to get better. He wants to get better and that's exciting."

So, Flacco had another good minicamp, which ended Thursday. He was as professional as ever and he probably spent more time working with receivers than at any other time of his career. He seems to get along with Trestman, and might be happier throwing more out of the shotgun formation this season.

As far as this team is concerned, there are far more other areas to be concerned about like the secondary and wide receiver positions than at quarterback.

That's why it seemed so out of place when Ravens coach John Harbaugh felt he had to defend Flacco a couple of weeks ago by calling him a "superstar." In Baltimore, some fans think Flacco has been treated unfairly but he really hasn't. Unless a QB is Hall of Fame material, there will always be much criticism. That's just the nature of the position.

With Flacco, his overall body of work has been impressive. More importantly, he has remained honest and pretty humble, not getting too high with the highs and too low with the lows. In a time where Baltimore has seen some of its superstars get into trouble, Flacco continues to meet the high standards.

As he is about to enter his eighth season in which he has started every game of his career, there aren't any concerns about Joe Flacco.

Absolutely none.

There is nothing to say.
