Michael Campanaro back at practice, expects to play against Colts on Saturday

Wide receiver and punt returner Michael Campanaro (River Hill), who had missed more than a week of camp with an undisclosed injury that Ravens coach John Harbaugh called "strains," returned to the practice field Monday.

"As far as the next three preseason games, basically I'm looking to come out and make plays when I get the opportunity, whether it's special teams or offense. We'll see where go from there," Campanaro said.

Campanaro said the chances of him playing in Saturday's second preseason game at Indianapolis are "pretty high."

The Ravens had their first practice since the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night.

Given that Harbaugh said after last Thursday's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers that it was imperative for the Ravens to straighten out their return game, Campanaro's health is a key subject going into Lucas Oil Field.

The Ravens had one punt return against the Panthers fumbled by Kaelin Clay deep in their own territory in last Thursday's preseason opener and another return by former Navy star Keenan Reynolds appear to be misplayed before he was bailed out by a penalty. (The Ravens waived the injured Clay on Monday.)

"I love punt returning, it's my favorite thing to do in the game of football. I'm excited to be in there and catch some punts," Campanaro said.

The Columbia Association annual KidsDay is Saturday at the Columbia SportsPark and Michael Campanaro will be in attendance

Campanaro said it was tough to miss so many practices.

"Anytime you're out dealing with something it's frustrating," said Campanaro, whose first two NFL seasons with the Ravens have been either interrupted or ended by injuries. "It feels good to be back out here."

Campanaro acknowledged that he is still not 100 percent.

"Anytime you haven't played in about 11 months, you're going to be working through some things coming back," Campanaro said. "That's all I'm really doing right now, trying to prepare my body, stay out here, make plays and be consistent."

Asked if he felt any pressure to get back on the field to secure a roster spot, Campanaro said, "I definitely am. Dealing with so many injuries, you definitely have to be out here. I know Coach Harbs has been a little disappointed I haven't be out here. The more I'm out here, the more I'm making plays. I have a lot of plays to make up."
